Begrudgingly, I have finally accepted the fact that fall has arrived.
Although it is technically my favorite season, I must admit that Autumn does not perform to its maximum potential in Wisconsin. We get about a month of fall weather, and then 5 months of winter-- IT'S NOT FAIR!!
Perhaps I'm spoiled, as I experienced 4 beautiful years of East Coast Autumn while attending college at Hampton University in Virginia. The type of fall where the leaves change, but the weather stays mild, where you can wear fall fashion trends without freezing, and can sip your pumpkin spice latte (let's be real, I don't like coffee, but it sets the mood ok?) in peace, without the looming prospect of frostbite and an impending snowstorm, in October. Gross.
So, anyway, now that our Indian Summer of 70 degree weather is coming to a close, and November in Wisconsin (freezing fall-winter hybrid) is quickly approaching, I guess I'll share a few of my favorite fall makeup trends with you.
1. Berry Lips
This is my fall staple. Shades in rasberry, plum, cranberry, and blackened cherry are an absolute MUST for the season. I know its a commitment, but there's nothing more powerful than a woman in a statement lip.
Just leave the rest of your features to more neutral tones, closer to hues found in your natural skintone- caramel, mocha, taupe, gold, etc. Skip the eyeliner, add mascara to the lashes as you please. Just a touch of blush or bronzer so you look alive, and BOOM: rock that lip girl!!!
And for my more demure ladies, try gloss: it adds color, while sill being able to see through to your natural lip tone so your not going full blast if you're not ready! ( even though I definitely think you are! :)
Here are some of my favorite fall lip colors:
MAC Matte Lipstick in "Viva Glam 1" (mid-tone cranberrry)
MAC Retromatte Liquid Lipstick in "Oh Lady" (rich deep berry)
MAC Retromatte Liquid Lipstick in "High Drama" (blackened plum)
MAC Lipglass in "Rebel" (rich grape)
Anastasia Beverly Hills Lipgloss in "Black Cherry" (self-explanatory)
Want to play with what you have at home before going shopping? Try an ombre lip. This is the blending of 2-3 colors to create a multidimensional look on the lips: a fade of color from dark to light.

Pictured here is MAC Lipliner in "Nightmoth" with "Ruby Woo" lipstick. Start with the dark, berry colored lipliner on the outer frame of lips, feather it on to the lip about 3/4 of the way, and finish in the center with a classic red.
2017 holds a fresh take on 80's and 90's inspired glam. Think of a flush of Farrah Fawcet silver, but just on the lids, rather than pulled up to the brow bone. Picture Naoimi Campbell bronze swept under the lashline, rather than in a geometric cat eye. Imagine a futuristic 90's hip-hop metallic lip, but in a subdued fleshy color, rather than full force and in your face, platinum style.
Metallics add a cool, multidimensional vibe to makeup. I suggest starting with cream shades, applied delicately with your ring finger to the eyelid. Using you fingers forces a more natural, lived-in application, and is nice and quick if you're in a hurry.
Scared of metallic lipstick? There's always.. DING DING DING: Lipgloss.
And if you're really fancy, try strobing the skin (on high-points of the brow bone, cheek and center of the face) with a mixture of skincare, and liquid or powder highlighters to get that "glow-from-within-skin."
Here are some of my go-to metallics:
MAC Prolongwear Paint Pot (cream eyeshadow) in "Indianwood" (cool gold)
MAC Prolongwear Paint Pot (cream eyeshadow ) in "Vintage Selection" (champagne frost)
Fenty Beauty Match Stix Shimmer (cream stick that can be used on eyes, cheks and lips, 4 shades)
Fenty Beauty Lipgloss in "Glossbomb" (universal shimmer)
Fenty Beauty Holiday Collection "Galaxy" (just stop into Sephora and try it all on, Crazy beautiful metallic eye and lip colors)
MAC Viva Glam Taraji 2 Lipstick and Lipgloss (deep warm bronze and metal gold)
Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder "Gold"
Temptu Pro Liquid Glow Boxycharm (liquid highlighter you can mix into moisturizer of foundation to add illuminating glow)
MAC Strobe Cream (5 shades, moisturizer with subtle metallic glow)

3. Pop of Color
DON"T LET THIS TREND SCARE YOU. COLOR IS YOUR FRIEND, BARBARA!!
LOL! But really, don't shy away from this trend. It can be executed subtly. You do not need to go all "Nicky Minaj circa 2007" with your color trend.
Try a color mascara on your bottom lashes.
Try a cool, long-wearing eye pencil under the lash line. Trust me, you'll love it.
Or, you can always throw on a fun lipstick in a brighter color for a night out.
Here are some fun color products to try:
MAC Zoom Lash Mini Mascara in Green, Blue or Purple (Just $10)
Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil (all shades, and once its on, its ON)
MAC Matte Lipsticks in "All Fired Up," (deep magenta) "Heroine." (violet) and "So Chaud" (deep orange)
